R. Douglas Fields, Ph.D., is a neurobiologist and an Adjunct Professor in the Neuroscience and Cognitive Science Program at the University of Maryland, College Park. He is the author of two books:
- The Other Brain: The Scientific and Medical Breakthroughs That Will Heal Our Brains and Revolutionize Our Health (December 2009)
- Beyond the Synapse: Cell-Cell Signaling in Synaptic Plasticity (September 2008)
His evidence that mere harsh words can damage the brain may be a biological basis for non-aggression in human exchange.
