Copyright

A copyright (©) is a kind of intellectual property which allows the copyright holder to exercise a monopoly on the copying of a work of art. Originally, copyrights were only applicable to books and had to be explicitly announced as copyrighted. Nowadays, copyrights can be used with paintings, music, movies, etc. and are automatically added to any work of art not explicitly said to be public domain by the artist.
