School choice is the ability of people to choose what educational institution to attend. School choice is hindered by laws requiring children to attend whatever public school is in their district (rather than having the option of going outside the district) or by taxes, such as school taxes, that make it more difficult for families to afford private schooling or for parents to forgo work opportunities in order to teach their children at home.
