Poundage
Poundage is an English law term for the tariff on exports and imports. Essentially, poundage is taxation based upon a measure of weight (e.g. one shilling per pound).
This tax aided in the state formation process and, although going against the Magna Carta, was permanently established by the fourteenth century.[1]
