Multiparty system

A multiparty system is one in which more than two political parties share power, often through coalition governments. Libertarians often support the emergence of a multiparty system through proportional representation, although such systems also have the potential to give power to far-left, far-right, and authoritarian parties that may be more statist in some respects than the centrist parties. In a multiparty system, a minor party can become a kingmaker and extract concessions from the major parties that need the minor party's support in order to exercise majority power in the legislature.
