Silver Dime Card

A Silver Dime Card consists of one United States 90% Silver Dime (United States coin) laminated within a credit-card sized plastic sleeve. The dime is accompanied within the lamination by a paper insert often printed with graphics on the front and some form of conversion table on the back. The table is intended to aid the holder in converting the price of bartered goods between Federal Reserve Notes and the approximate amount of silver within the card.

Don't Tread On Meme, the leading craftsmen and advocates of the project, founded the project in 2010 to provide a smaller-valued unit to compliment the rise of precious metal barter and to create a convenient educational tool for Austrian Economics concepts such as Gresham's Law, Inflation, and Subjective Value. The founders were influenced by silver barter innovators such as Shire Silver, American Open Currency Standard, Del Valley Silver, and Silver Circle Movie, with whom they have found the cards to be a valuable fundraising and marketing tool for the upcoming film. Don't Tread On Meme have produced limited runs of custom cards for liberty-supporting organizations such as Wheels Off Liberty Podcast, Freedom Feens Podcast, Freedom's Phoenix Digital E-Zine, Fr33 Aid, Porcfest 2012, and the author Tarrin Lupo.

The signature addition by Don't Tread On Meme is a QR-Code linking to their original mobile app "Silver Calculator" for Android and iPhone. It was conceived as a point-of-sale live-update interface for precious metal barter. It has been continually updated to include international and alternative coins and it has over 6,000 downloads.

Don't Tread On Meme encouraged others to imitate and build-upon the platform, and within one year other organizations were inspired to produce their own cards. In 2011, Freedom's Phoenix produced and sold over 5,000 Silver Dime Cards to raise funds for the website The Daily Paul. Silver Dime Cards can now be found circulating across the United States and internationally. La Monnae Saine, a Frederic Bastiat fan group from Strausburg, France, produces cards containing French silver coins with conversion table for the Euro. In a similar fashion to Don't Tread On Meme, they advocate peacful market-based transition away from troubled fiat currencies.
