'''William Stanley Jevons''' (1835 – 1882) was a British economist. He was particularly known for discovering the [[marginal utility]] approach in price theory, at the same time as [[Léon Walras]] and [[Carl Menger]].

He is also notable for popularizing the ''[[An Essay on Economic Theory|Essai]]'', a largely unnoticed magnum opus of [[Richard Cantillon]], which Jevons declared to be, "more emphatically than any other single work, the Cradle of Political Economy".<ref name="Jevons_Cantillon">W.
